First CSULA Philosophy Club meeting of Winter Quarter 2016

The CSULA Philosophy Club will be having its first meeting of Winter Quarter this coming Wednesday! Info Below:

WHEN: Wednesday 1/13/16

WHERE: KHB3013

TIME: 3:15PM

This week’s meeting will consist of a presentation by Pedro Melchor on Peter Singer’s Essay “Famine, Affluence, and Morality.” If you are unfamiliar with this work, a pdf of the essay is attached. Please feel free to look it over before this week’s meeting and come prepared with questions, thoughts, objections, etc. Below is an abstract of the presentation provided by Pedro:

Philosopher Peter Singer wrote his “Famine, Affluence, and Morality,” in order to argue that moral agents have a moral OBLIGATION to provide aid to those who suffer from lack of food, shelter, and medical services. The discussion would follow two trends: The first one being whether or not Singer succeeds in his argument. The second is to discuss the distinction between duties and virtues when it comes to charity. Please be prepared to discuss such interesting issues. Be prepared with your moral intuitions.

Hope to see you there!
